One of the businesses I’ve had the pleasure of consulting with this year has been Verbal Commits.
A basketball recruiting start-up, Verbal Commits has seen a tremendous amount of growth in the last few months. It’s gone from just a couple hundred Twitter followers to over 2000, including many top Division I head basketball coaches.
They aggregate data from other websites around the Internet and present it to readers in a clean, easy-to-access way.
I’ve been assisting in an advisory role, helping with the start-up’s direction in a challenging industry.
Here’s what Verbal Commits founder Paul Pettengill had to say about working with me:
“I was lucky enough to meet James Kerti as my start-up was in its nascent stages, and since then, James’s council has helped position it as a leader in a very crowded market.
James has helped our brand retain its focus amid our growth from a newly launched independently published website to the leading data aggregator of information in the field.
James understood the value that we were bringing to market, and helped to ensure that we grew by serving our market more deeply rather than attempting to expand into adjacent areas.
This focus allowed us to delight our initial market to the point that our consumers spread the word about us, allowing us to grow by orders of magnitude without advertising or external marketing.”
Paul and his team are doing a great job, and I’m excited to see how that brand continues to grow and develop.
